Is dotcom extension still in-demand?

During my childhood time when I was new to the internet ecosystem. I've always thought that .com domain extension is the only legit extension in the internet world. That every other extension is simply deceiving, that they aren't legit, Lol. That was my imagination then, don't crucify me, cos I was a newbie then.

Do you still think the .com extension remains in-demand this day more than any other extension?

Yes, other extensions are gaining the spotlight but at the meantime, the .com and .net is still the leading extension. I'm seeing more of .xyz extensions, its becoming popular as well.
