What are your thoughts on advertising your site / forum on a billboard on something like Blip? https://www.blipbillboards.com/ You can run a campaign for as little as $5 a day and buy 8-second ads on billboards nationwide. Could it work to bring traffic to your site? Would it be worth it?

It won't kill forums, but it won't help either. I think there will always be those who want more control, either over their community's presentation or over their data. I miss the internet before Facebook and Reddit though, when forums were more alive.

I've recently started using Matomo instead of Google Analytics and I am impressed. It's fast and I control the data instead of Google. It's essentially free self-hosted analytics for your site.

My worst one was where they lost my database (shared hosting server crashed) and took my whole site with it. This was years and years ago, when I was young and dumb and didn't have a proper backup.

Back in the day this used to be the way to advertise a new site and get backlinks, but now it seems Xenforo's default behavior is to put a "nofollow" on every link that is posted, so no building backlinks that way anymore.

Sometimes it's a matter of taking the best part of their advise and rolling that into your plans. Sometimes someone will have an opinion and I won't agree with all of it, but I'll consider what they said and take the useful bits and use that to improve.

I wonder how the users would feel. Sure, you could take the userbase but if you now have a bunch of unhappy users whose forum you just killed or rolled into your own, is it worth it?

My forum / site's niche is entitled people stories. Stories about entitled parents, terrible retail customers, etc.
