Have you ever had a successful run with a paid promotion? If so, what exactly did you do, on what site, etc.

I personally have not had much success with paid advertising, I've spent thousands as of now without a lot of success, so I was wondering if anyone has had any success in paid promotion.

So far, no. I boguht some ad space on facebook awhile back and it was pretty much a waste of money, gained virtually nothing from it.
I completely agree. I've spent a large chunk of money thus far on facebook ads with little to nothing to show for it.

I've been considering ad space but it's posts like these that discourage me from doing so. I don't really think many people seeing my ad on Facebook would be interested in joining a forum, for instance.

I have backlinks, my mobile page speed is decent, and I'm beginning to have good articles written for the site too. Outside of affiliates however I am struggling to think of ways to get the sites name out there, I guess just more articles and trying to get their keywords up in google?

Yeah, I'd recommend getting ranked first on google with some keywords that has decent traffic (1k - 10k) with low competition. That way you'll be able to get more people through google than anything. Nothing gains members faster than googling something and finding a place.

I can confirm I tried Facebook ads and got slandered the people on that platform are to busy abusing each other to join a moderated environment.

Never tried Snapchat, though I'm the most interested in TikTok. I think that could bring in a LOT of people for various different Niches, webmaster being one of them.
