Creating hype for a site before opening?

Have you every created hype for a site before you opened. Did you create a personal message, create a newsletter, exc? Have you ever done this. Was it for a blog, personal, forum, exc.. How did that end up working out for you?

My most successful site I did that. I was promoting it to a lot of people, and getting them hyped for the site before it opened. So the moment I posted the link over a hundred people joined that day. I think it was one of the larger reasons why it was so successful early on to be honest.

Its good to hype your own creation but don't over hype it. Only hype when it is necessary and always make sure your website will those expectations.

Really you think so? I was always scared to have bugs or glitches, so I never promoted until way after I launched... hmm this gives me some ideas.

I remember back when RP forums were big people would boast about ideas they had, a lot worked out, some didn't.

I've never been big on RP but one site someone was making had me hooked with their idea to the point where I ended up becoming an admin and creating most of the designs and layouts of the site for them before it was open. They had a LOT of people hyped for it and scheduled to be apart of it before it opened as well. They ended up getting bored of the idea before it was released and shut down the idea... still to this day I have everything that I made for them in I ever want to give it a shot myself.
